StarFleet Region 17 at Opus

At Opus I got together with some folks belonging to a great fan club known as Star Fleet Region 17 with 205 members here and around Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. There are approximately 4000 + members and 250 active chapters around the world and still growing. Star Fleet started in 1974 in Texas as a way for fans of the Star Trek series to come together and talk about the shows they love and what they mean to them. Their Prime Directive is to share their interest in Star Trek and science fiction and in the science of space exploration. StarFleet members also participate in numerous charities in their own communities and around the United States as well as overseas, such as the Relay for Life, Toys for Tots, and The Marion House. I sat with the group for a while as they explained their love for science fiction and how they found wonderful friendships among themselves as well as others, because of a common interest. As we chatted I discovered a wonderful family bond between them and how they have come together in times of need to help one another.
