October observations

Welcome to October. It’s that time once again. Time to gear up for Halloween and time for a new poll! It is also time to send out special congratulations to our behind the scenes guy, Robert. As of today he is officially a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force! Trust me when I tell you he worked hard for this and it is much deserved. I am so very proud of you! SCIFIPUNDIT salutes you with the highly coveted six alien award.

What else is great about October? Well, Dr Who has started up again. I enjoyed the two new episodes shown on Friday. I like this new Doctor. I liked the old one, Christopher Eccleston. Still Tom Baker is my favorite. AND…I am still waiting for the Doctor to don a scarf! And of course this Friday BSG returns! YAY fricking YAY! At Alex’s birthday party last Saturday, we were discussing who will live and who will die in the upcoming season. (Yes, people, we talk about sci-fi ALL THE TIME.) Curious? Go check out the latest spoilers here.

On a personal note…I finally broke down and got a DVR. I no longer have to schedule my life around my favorite sci-fi shows. I am not sure what took me so long. But now, I am free at last!

There is also the little matter of the newly remastered Star Trek. I am pleasantly surprised. The colors are far more vivid and the effects more stunning. I think Mr. Roddenberry would have approved. My friend, Karen, commented that she was disturbed by Spock’s makeup. I do have to agree with this comment. You can see very clearly just how they made Mr. Nimoy into a Vulcan, purple eye shadow and all. Nonetheless, this upgrade doesn’t seem to detract from the show and in fact enhances the viewing experience.

As for the poll, since we received a very favorable response last year and because it is timely, I will once again bring back last October’s poll. Do you believe in ghosts? Let us know, Vote!
