The latest movie X-men: the Last Stand has already surpassed the last two X Men movies grossing well over 100 million dollars at the box offices this past weekend, and having released it on a holiday weekend didn't hurt either helped the tattered movie industry to come out swinging this summer. I will say I enjoyed the latest installment of the comic book-turned cartoon, turned movie, and yes I think there is even a story this timeverses the last two films which I also enjoyed and now own on DVD. I was amazed at the special effects that seem to get better with each passing movie and I did like the story line, told as thin as it was, of a cure for mutants as governments and civilians alike treated the mutant genes as some sort of an illness that could easily be cured with some sort of drug. The real story almost seemed to be the about how we treat others that are not like ourselves, be they smaller or taller than normal, or gay or even of a different culture. If they are not of the so-called norm than they must be made to be. Some folks think this can be solved with a bully- type attitude or a social pressuring. In some cases it might be a gene in their DNA that can be cured by means of drugs. As far as I have seen in my 40 yrs and, growing up in the south on military base and working in Africa during the last years of apartheid, witnessing firsthand humans being cruel to other humans in both places, none of this works very well, I can speak on authority about this subject and know talking and compromise is a much better way as most others know and are just too afraid to admit that it might work. They would have to give up their so- called moral high ground. I notice people fear what they do not know nor understand, so it is and has been always far easier to blame the other and cast doubts or stones in some cases on those that do not bend to the so called normal way of think or believe. Maybe I did read more into it than there was but, it just brought back some feelings that I had, seeing it for real and a daily basis. Now on a lighter note, There is to be a Wolverine movie in the works and will star Hugh Jackman, but so far no release date is set, nor is their any word of a forth X-Men movie but I will bet, if it continues to slash the competition another will be made also make sure if you do see it to stay through the end credits for 30 seconds extra. I heard it is worth the pee wait

I Know Why Green Is My Favorite Color
So we survived another convention weekend and this time it was Opus Fantasy Arts Convention. I was a little concerned when we saw the list of events. The list of writing tracts and little if any magic and costume tracts worried my wife and I that there wouldn’t be much to do there this time but I was happily wrong. The music both Gothic and Celtic and art show was very good and seeing old friends made it better. The fighting demos by different clubs from around Colorado were well done such as the group called "Women on the Edge", an all female, fighting club that use sword, quarter staff and axe to make their point were excellent. I also quite enjoyed the Orion Slave Women belly dancers from a group called, "The Serpent Moon Dancers" who were very talented, and who ever said green women aren’t damn sexy ? We did a few parties while up there this weekend as well. The Klingons held a great feast and the Avistrum Academy of Sorcery held a high energy dance known as the Dark Wizards Ball. I am hoping next year that there are more interactive tracts and discussion panels for folks to be involved in throughout the weekend, but I will say this, it was a good time for all I also hope my friend David is able to keep it to just two harems next con but that’s another story for another time.

Start saving your money!
Christie's will be having a "Star Trek garage sale" from October 5 to 7, 2006. In conjunction with the 40th anniversary, Paramount is cleaning out it's vault. There will be over 4000 items available. I think I will start making my Christmas list now. Read more about it here.
My concern is...if they are getting rid of so many things, does this signal the end of Star Trek?

A quick note for those who might be interested, Opus Fantasy Arts Festival begins this weekend and runs through Sunday eve. If you enjoy fantasy art or writing this is the place for you. There is a large selection of events and workshops as well as Gothic and Celtic music being played throughout weekend and fighting demos will go on as well, both hand to hand and sword. I will be attending the fest with my wife and will be looking forward to meeting anyone that wants to drop by. Opus is at a new site this year, at the Hyatt Hotel in the tech center. Festival, Also if any are interested the costume tract is also wonderful to watch when they do their demos and masquerade contest Saturday night. I also know that there will be live action role playing will be going on for those who enjoy the hunt. The Avistrum Academy of Sorcery based on the Harry Potter series, will be conducting classes and host a Dark Wizards Ball Saturday night. Lastly there will be a Horror Con at the Marriott Hotel in the tech center, just a block away for those interested in haunted house design, this is a national convention and gives wonderful ideas for Halloween. So come out and see us, we would love to see you.

Finding the Lost
For those of you that haven’t followed the hit ABC series Lost on Wednesday nights at 8, you are missing a mind puzzling television experience. I started to follow the show late into the first season and was instantly hooked. The show continually twists the story line so as to make the viewers rethink their theories as to what is happening on the island. I am seriously impressed with the creative minds of the writers, who send you one direction with an idea as to why the survivors of the ill-fated Oceanic flight are marooned on the island, and then these same writers switch directions on the fans and throw in other clues. I studied the map the character John found on the huge blast doors of the bunker. There is a copy in Entertainment Weekly and just so you all know I needed a magnifying glass to read some of the smaller writings. This map gives locations of the other bunkers around the island and a series of other clues in English and French. I recently paid a visit to a web site called "The Lost Experience" because the local newspaper suggested it. You should be able to work out clues but I will say this, the site was more confusing than the island itself and isn't very user friendly. So I was a little disappointed. I would love to hear from people who think they know what’s going on with the island. I have my own ideas, but would be happy to entertain other theories in regards to it. Let us hear back from you here at SCIFIPUNDIT.
