The $100 Million Boy

My beautiful wife and I went to the opening of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. This is the 4th film in what hopefully is seven movies planned for release over the next few years. I will say this is the best of the movies to date and her largest novel to be made into a movie to date in the series by J.K. Rowlings, who's books have sold over $400 million and have been printed in over 30 languages so far. It also is the best grossing of the four films to date, taking in over $100 million in its opening weekend with $17.00 of that $100 million being mine (plus popcorn and soda)... (no candy). I was incredibly happy with this movie, with a story that grabbed and kept your attention from beginning to end of the two hour and forty minute movie. This story is a lot darker than the previous books and movies and I will say now, it is not for those younger than thirteen. Some of the subject matter is a little tough for anyone younger than that to deal with. I will also say this movie has a bit more humor in it than the previous films and I liked how they brought the young Harry Potter and friends into their teenage years, dealing with love, life, bonds of friendship and sadly ...death. The movie stays close to the book as best it can (or so my wife tells me), with a script being just over 170 pages in length. As for me, I only recently started listening to the Harry Potter series on CD and have enjoyed them immensely, having listened to the first 2 books twice. If you don’t have the time to read these wonderful stories, then pick the CDs up and listen to them on the way to work or a trip - it helps to pass the time and are quite enjoyable. I know some of those who read this blog will wait for the DVD to come out in the months ahead but I would suggest seeing it in IMAX, it really makes a difference that you can’t experience on even the largest television. If you have any comments on this or any story, please let us know we would love to hear from you.

Good girls like bad beings

We’ve finally gotten around to coming up with a new poll for November. It is a common theme through out science fiction...the bad guys, the bad species, the bad seeds. Who's your favorite? Forgive me; it's a little heavy on the Star Trek side. But are you really surprised? The poll is now conveniently located. Vote for your favorite villain!

Starfest starts their updates for the 2006 convention

Starfest of Denver has finally up dated their web site for the convention for 2006. The science fiction known as Starfest will run April 21st through the 23rd of April. I would seriously suggest getting your room early for this one and make sure you ask for the atrium if possible. It is the best place to sit and watch the action down below; where you will find most of the fan clubs and parties going on. This is one convention I can’t wait to happen. Their guest list is always top notch and the panels as well as the art show are great. Additionally, the staff at the Marriott in the Denver Tech Center are outstanding and from what I have seen want us back each year. We here at SCIFIPUNDIT will be attending again this year and reporting on the goings on of this 3 day event. I may even try to see if we can get press passes for our crew, but sort of doubt it, since we are not a local paper or radio or television station but it never hurts to ask. I will not lie here on this blog, this is one of the most exciting conventions to come to Colorado each and every year and truly one of my favorites next to the Opus convention that happens in May. I want everyone that reads this blog to know that this is 3 days of fun and interesting folks. You need to experience this thrill ride for yourselves, trust me, you wont be disappointed. I will report back when I know more of who and what will be happening at the convention.
