So this is Blogging? I set up this site for fans, enthusiasts and anyone else interested in Sci-Fi so that they may discuss their hopes, dreams, and wishes for what's to come in the universe of Science Fiction, Paranormal or Fantasy.

SCIFIPUNDIT Update

As you may have noticed we haven't been blogging much lately. Life has a way of keeping you from the things you love to do...like blogging, camping etc. Due to the death of a friend, we've been trying to offer support and assistance to those we care about. Therefore, we are not going camping this weekend. However, we have rescheduled for the weekend of September 9-11 at a lovely little place called Lost Burro near the sleepy little mining/gambling parish of Cripple Creek. Alex’s idea actually…

And speaking of Alex, his computer has crashed and burned. So, he bought a Dell laptop, you know, as seen on SG-1. After having to arm wrestle with the award winning customer service folks at Dell, his very determined wife Toni was able to build a nice system. So rest assured in about two weeks our fearless leader will enter the 21 century (insert happy dance here) and will blog with all the bells and whistles he so justly deserves. Now we all have laptops…next stop…live blogging.

This weekend is pretty full as well with lots of friend related activities. Some good, some not so much. However there are posts coming about various topics. Stay tuned!

Sci Fi in the Wilderness

Hello everyone, sorry we haven’t posted much lately, just lots of things going on. I wanted everyone to know who reads this blog that the founders and some friends are going camping Aug 26th thru the 28th at Mueller State Park near the old mining town of Cripple Creek. My friend and co-author to this blog, Cheryl, wants to live blog from the camp site if we do a movie night and watch Firefly or any other sci fi movies and ask folks what they think of where science fiction is heading. I don’t know if we will have an internet connection up there but if we do rest assured blogging will happen one way or another. I am curious what people will think about this idea so let us know here at SCIFIPUNDIT and we will chat about it.

Firefly frenzy

With just 49 days until the release of Serenity (but who’s counting), I am seeing Firefly mentioned more and more. Great! That’s exactly what I want to see, what we all want to see. Even though I don’t agree with the bizarre scheduling of the show on the Scifi channel, at least the series is getting some much deserved air time. Even Robert is single handedly trying to spread the word about Firefly. Go get the DVD set of the series, he promises you won't be disappointed. It’s really quite sad that until Alex mentioned the series and movie back in March, I had never even heard about this wonderful concept dreamed up by Joss Whedon. But now I know and I am also spreading the word.

First, Joss Whedon and Dark Horse Comics have come out with a series of comic books that pick up where the series left off. The intention is to bridge the gap between the series and the movie. I have already read the first of the three comic books. This idea definitely deserves at least 4 and ½ aliens in my book. Because of the involvement of Whedon and Brett Matthews, the comic books definitely maintain the mood of the series. Read more about the comic book series here. Better yet, you can buy your very own here.

Second, you can purchase some lovely Firefly t-shirts. Special thanks to Steve, our ever diligent reader, for finding this website. Someone at SCIFIPUNDIT has a birthday coming up. I bet one of these t-shirts might be on his ever growing “what I want for my birthday” list….

Lastly, I found this enlightening website that gives you the English translation of the Chinese being spoken and seen on Firefly. Mr. Whedon demonstrates his ingenuity by adding a Chinese influence to his vision of the future.

In 49 days you should be at the movie theater with us watching this movie. We will save you some popcorn.

We're baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

Last Saturday our blog disappeared. We are not really sure what happened. Today, Robin from blogspot was able to bring back our blog. We would like to thank Robin for her help. What a relief! We would also like to thank all our readers for patiently waiting for the return of SCIFIPUNDIT. And now back to our regularly scheduled program….

Doom blasts into theaters this fall

Doom is on its way to the big screen. The popular computer game, DOOM starring The Rock will premiere for the holiday season in October. On the planet Mars, scientists finally decode the last strands of human DNA and through experiments create some sort of mutant creature. A special operations team is called in to destroy the monsters running rampant thru the facility and save the last members of the science team. Led by Master Sergeant Thomas Kelly played by The Rock and Kohn Grimm played by Karl Urban, the plot somewhat traces a line from the computer game to the movie with all the action one can hope for. I am sure there will be plenty of blood and guts for anyone who loved one of the first true shoot’em up computer games released some years ago. Look for trailers at the theaters starting this month and if you know of any other computer games coming to the big screen, please let us know here at SCIFIPUNDIT.

Invasion?

Our very astute reader, Steve, sent an email giving us the heads up that Nicole Kidman has signed on to play a psychologist in Warner Bros' remake of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers, simply named Invasion. No word yet when the production starts. Read about it here. Should be interesting…stay tuned.
